For children
Encouraging your child to take regular exercise from such a young age is an extremely healthy routine to instil which may prevent childhood lethargy.
The older a child is when they first enter a swimming pool, the bigger the ordeal it can become for them. Whatever age your child is when he or she joins Puddle Ducks, they will learn to accept and trust the aquatic environment and transform from a child who cries when they have their hair washed to a child who giggles when water is poured over their head. Our children are never pushed, but are always praised and encouraged. We have a carefully designed programme which will enable your child to discover the joys of playing and swimming in the water in a fun, but safe, environment.
Children learn water safety skills from their first lesson when they learn to wait for permission to jump into the water, to kick to the surface and to turn back to the side. And of course, learning to float and to swim. At least one parent has appreciated this when her little girl of two fell into a canal: "It was very scary. She veered off the towpath and fell in. She sank so I couldn't see her. However, after a few seconds she had kicked to the surface and I was be able to get her out. She was crying with shock but not spluttering or coughing at all! We are only talking a matter of seconds but without Puddle Ducks classes it could have been very different. I am just so pleased we have been coming to you!"
In the UK, at least 50 children drown each year and drowning is the third most common cause of death in children under 16. Yet still, 200,000 children leave primary school each year without basic skills needed to survive in the water!
